Privacy policy

Draft — pending legal review. Last updated: 18 July 2026. This is a working draft written to structure Mellbeing's privacy commitments; it should be reviewed by a qualified lawyer familiar with India's Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act, 2023 before publishing live, especially given the sensitivity of mental health data.

Mellbeing ("we," "us," "our") operates an online platform connecting individuals with independent, qualified counsellors for therapy and mindfulness support. This policy explains what personal data we collect, why, and how we protect it.

Information we collect

  • Account details: name, email address, phone number, and password when you register.
  • Booking information: counsellor selected, session times, and session format (Single, Package, or Lite).
  • Intake information: what you share with us when describing what brings you to Mellbeing, used to help match you with a suitable counsellor.
  • Payment information: processed by our payment partner; we do not store full card or bank details on our own servers.
  • Usage data: pages visited, device and browser type, and general location, collected automatically to help us improve the platform.

How we use your information

We use your information to create and manage your account, match you with a suitable counsellor, process bookings and payments, send appointment reminders, respond to support requests, and improve the safety and quality of the platform. We do not sell your personal data to third parties.

Session confidentiality

What you discuss with your counsellor during a session is confidential between you and them, in line with standard professional counselling ethics. Mellbeing, as the platform, does not access session content or counsellor notes except where a counsellor is required to escalate a genuine safety concern, or where required by law. Counsellors are independently responsible for maintaining their own client records securely.

Sharing and third-party services

We share limited data with trusted third-party services that help us operate the platform, including scheduling tools (such as Cal.com) for booking sessions, video conferencing providers for session delivery, payment processors for handling transactions, and email or workspace providers for account and communication management. Each of these providers is bound by its own privacy and security obligations. We do not share your data with advertisers.

Data storage and security

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures — including encrypted connections and access controls — to protect your data against unauthorised access, alteration, or loss. No online system is completely secure, and we encourage you to use a strong, unique password for your account.

Your rights under Indian law

Under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, you have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, request correction of inaccurate data, withdraw consent for optional processing, and request deletion of your data, subject to any legal or contractual retention requirements. To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details below.

Information about minors

Our student and teen counselling services may involve users under the age of 18. Where a user is a minor, we require appropriate parental or guardian consent before account creation and session booking, in line with applicable law. Parents or guardians may contact us to review or request deletion of a minor's data.

Cookies

We use essential cookies to keep you logged in and remember basic preferences, and limited analytics cookies to understand how the site is used. You can control cookies through your browser settings; disabling essential cookies may affect site functionality.

Data retention

We retain account and booking information for as long as your account is active and for a reasonable period afterward to meet legal, accounting, or dispute-resolution needs. You may request earlier deletion, subject to any legal retention obligations that apply to health-adjacent records.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as our services evolve. We'll post the updated version here with a new "last updated" date, and notify you directly of any material change.
